If you are in the market for a new pair of sunglasses this season you will find lots of styles on offer. This article looks at seven popular sunglasses trends for spring/summer 2012.
Seven popular sunglasses trends for spring/summer 2012:
1. Cat eye sunglasses
Lots of retro television shows have been popular recently, like Mad Men and Pan Am. This has led to the revival of past fashion trends, in particular 1960s styles. Cat eye sunglasses are therefore one of the trendiest styles for spring/summer 2012. You will find simple styles in Black and tortoiseshell alongside oversized and angular styles. Some are decorated at the outer corner with things like studs.
2. Bright colored sunglasses
Bright colors like Red, Yellow and Tangerine are making an appearance in the sunglasses arena this season. Some feature more than one color within the one design, almost in a color block way. For example, there are styles with one color around the lenses, another on the arms, and a different hue for the lenses themselves.
3. Square frame sunglasses
Square frames are popular, especially when it comes to oversize styles. You will find both acetate and aviator styles in this shape. Black square frame sunglasses with Black tinted lenses are particularly popular and this is a style that should have some longevity in your wardrobe.
4. D Frame sunglasses
If you can’t quite bring yourself to wear cat eye sunglasses, the D frame style is like a more subtle take on this style. The lenses look pretty much like the capital letter D on the side.
5. Round frame sunglasses
There are many round frame sunglasses popping up this season, including styles that literally look like two circles. Round frame sunglasses can work well on square face shapes, because they help bring some curves and softness to your face shape.
6. Acetate frame sunglasses
Acetate frame sunglasses resurfaced as one of the more popular styles a few seasons back, they continue to be one of the most popular fabrications when it comes to sunglasses. There are lots of styles with contrasting color lenses and frames. You will also find printed acetate sunglasses with prints like stripes, snakeskin, other animal prints and even gingham.
7. Sunglasses with decorated arms
Several designers have gotten creative with the arm section of their sunglasses. For example designers like Victoria Beckham and Marc Jacobs have used a dropped temple style in their range. See the picture below of Victoria Beckham’s 18 karat rose gold sunglasses. The arms also feature cut out grooves. This pair retails for over 400 pounds, so it is not within the reach of everyone, but you will find chain stores offering styles with brightly colored arms, printed arms and arms with other decorative touches.
